Team GB's Ben Fletcher overcomes first-round test at European Games

Ben Fletcher records a victory by ippon over Isaac Bezzina to set up a last-16 meeting with Henk Grol at the European Games.

Great Britain's Ben Fletcher has booked his place in the second round of the men's judo -100kg at the European Games.

The 23-year-old got the better of Malta's Isaac Bezzina at the Heydar Aliyev Arena to claim victory by ippon.

Fletcher, a two-time British champion in the sport, will now face Henk Grol of the Netherlands for a Baku 2015 quarter-final berth.

Fellow Team GB hopeful Gemma Gibbons also advanced through her round-of-32 elimination match earlier today by recording a slender victory over Madeleine Malonga.
