Turkey will bid to host the 2022 Ryder Cup, the president of its golf federation has said.
Ahmet Agaoglu believes that the country has a strong chance of hosting the biennial tournament after the success of last weekend's Turkish Airlines Open, a tournament attended by world number one Tiger Woods.
Turkey is also in the running to replace Dubai as the location for the European Tour's season-ending event and next on the horizon is the Ryder Cup, Agaoglu told several national newspapers.
"We are candidates for the Race to Turkey in 2016 and what comes after that? The Ryder Cup," he said.
"We have the idea to host the Ryder Cup in 2022. We will bid for that. Either in Istanbul or Antalya."
The European Tour is expected to invite formal bids soon after next year's meeting between Europe and the United States at Gleneagles.
When asked about Turkey's chances, chief executive George O'Grady said: "Turkey would have as good a chance as anywhere.
"We have been staggered by the success of [the Turkish Airlines Open]. This is a country where anything is possible."
After next year's match at Gleneagles, Paris will host the 2018 tournament. Europe currently hold the trophy after last year's sensational final-day comeback at Medinah.
