Ian Poulter wins Australian Masters

England's Ian Poulter shoots a final round 67 to overhaul home favourite Geoff Ogilvy at the Australian Masters.

Ian Poulter came from behind to triumph in the Australian Masters in Melbourne this morning.

Florida-based Poulter, 35, trailed home favourite Geoff Ogilvy by two strokes going into the final round but fired a four-under-par 67 to claim victory.

Ogilvy finished four shots adrift of the Englishman on 11-under after a final-round 73.

Poulter began his round with an eagle two at the par-four first and never looked back, carding just one bogey.

"To come down here the week before Christmas and to win this tournament is very special," said world number 28 Poulter.

"I love being in contention, that's why I play this game of golf. If you're down the field there's no adrenalin, there's no excitement, there's no real interest."

Poulter's fellow Englishman Luke Donald, who historically won both the European and US money lists this year, finished joint 12th on four-under.
