The US clinch a 19-15 victory over the Internationals in the Presidents Cup with Tiger Woods sealing the winning point

Tiger Woods earned the winning point as the United States retained the Presidents Cup with a 19-15 victory over the International team at Royal Melbourne.

The former world number one defeated Aussie Aaron Baddeley 4&3 in his singles match to clinch the decisive point.

The States led 13-9 going into the final day but it was the Internationals who started the brighter, winning the first four matches through KT Kim, Charl Schwartzel, Ryo Ishikawa and Geoff Ogilvy.

Hunter Mahan and Nick Watney stemmed the tide before the sides traded wins ahead of Woods's clincher.

"It feels good," said Woods. "I hoped it wouldn't come down to my point."

The 14-time major winner struggled in the early stages of this year's event, winning only one point out of a possible four.

"I played well all week, but unfortunately didn't make any putts in the first four matches," added Woods. "Today was a different deal - they poured right in."

The win avenges the American's only Presidents Cup defeat at the same venue 13 years ago.
