Rory McIlroy has opened up a two-shot lead at the Dubai Desert Classic after recording a nine-under-par round of 63.

The world number six, who is looking to build on his second-place finish at the HSBC Golf Championship two weeks ago, carded seven birdies and an eagle to establish an early advantage over Edoardo Molinari.

A group of five players, including Richard Sterne and Stephen Gallagher, sit in third position on six-under-par, while Robert Rock is a shot further adrift on five-under.

Tiger Woods opened up with a round of 68 to get himself into contention, but Henrik Stenson is currently off the pace in 35th position.
