Hunter Mahan takes a two-shot lead at the halfway stage of the Canadian Open in Oakville, Ontario.

Hunter Mahan has climbed to the top of the leaderboard after the second round of the Canadian Open in Oakville, Ontario.

The American carded a bogey-free 64 at Glen Abbey Golf Club to carve open a two-shot advantage on John Merrick.

Bubba Watson went round in 67 and lurks four shots off the pace, while Patrick Reed and Aaron Baddeley are both on eight-under-par.

Overnight leader Brendan Steele struggled to a three-over 75, 10 shots more than he needed yesterday.

Luke Donald could only better yesterday's 73 by two shots, finishing just outside the one-under cut mark.

There was better news for Graeme McDowell, who signed for a 67 to finish on three-under-par. Charl Schwartzel (-1) will also be sticking around for the weekend.
