Brendan Steele leads the Canadian Open by one shot after the first round, while Luke Donald and Graeme McDowell laboured at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ontario.

Brendan Steele has taken a one-shot lead after the first round of the Canadian Open in Oakville, Ontario.

The American carded a seven-under-par round of 65 to leave Scott Brown, Matt Kuchar and Scott Gardiner in a tie for second place.

Hunter Mahan, who has played in the final group in the last two Majors, is once again challenging at the top of the leaderboard on five-under-par.

Sweden's David Lingmerth is also on five-under, while Bubba Watson is among a nine-strong group of players on four-under.

Further down the field are Charl Schwartzel (+1), Luke Donald (+1) and Graeme McDowell (+4).
