PGA of America sacks Ted Bishop over Ian Poulter 'little girl' comments

Ted Bishop is sacked as PGA of America president in the wake of his Ian Poulter comments.

The PGA of America has sacked president Ted Bishop over his offensive comments about Ian Poulter.

Poulter admitted that he was shocked to be labelled a "little girl" by Bishop, who will be replaced by vice-president Derek Sprague until November 22.

In a statement, PGA of America chief executive officer Pete Bevacqua said: "The PGA of America understands the enormous responsibility it has to lead this great game and to enrich lives in our society through golf.

"We must demand of ourselves that we make golf both welcoming and inclusive to all who want to experience it, and everyone at the PGA of America must lead by example.

"The members and apprentices of the PGA of America must uphold the highest standards and values of the profession, as well as the manner in which we conduct ourselves at all times. We apologise to any individual or group that felt diminished, in any way, by this unacceptable incident."

Bishop's comments were in response to Poulter's criticism of Nick Faldo and Tom Watson as Ryder Cup captains.
