Indian Jeev Milkha Singh leads the Irish Open going into the second day after hitting an impressive 8-under 63 at Killarney.
Ireland's own golfing hopes fared less well as Open winner Darren Clarke settled for a disappointing 2-under 69, one shot better than US Open champion Rory McIlroy.
Graeme McDowell and Padraig Harrington fared even worse, ending on a 1-over 72 and 2-over 73 respectively.
However, Ireland's Colm Moriarty managed to end the day tied for sixth with reigning champion Ross Fisher with a 4-under 67.
"I played lovely all day. It's the tournament you want to do well," said Moriarty.
"This is where you want to be playing week in, week out."
