Darren Clarke targets Irish Open glory

Darren Clarke aims to add to this month's success with his first Irish Open trophy.

Darren Clarke has set his sights on winning the Irish Open to follow his success at Sandwich earlier this month.

The Northern Irishman was crowned champion at The Open after 20 years of competing in the British major. However, the 42-year-old has admitted his desire to add the Irish Open to his trophy cabinet.

"I've been close on a number of occasions and never quite got the job done - a bit like in The Open you could say," Clarke told the official Tour website.

"It would be a hell of an achievement - a dream come true - to have The Open and Irish Open trophies on display back at home.

"It has already been an amazing month for me and to do the double would be unbelievable."

As a 21-year-old amateur, Clarke appeared in the Irish Open for the first time at Portmarnock in 1990 and finished in 50th place.
