Jose Maria Olazabal announces his intention to pick four vice-captains for the 2010 Ryder Cup at the Medinah course in Chicago.

Jose Maria Olazabal has announced his intention to select four vice-captains for the Ryder Cup in September.

The Spaniard captains the European team for this year's event at the Medinah course in Chicago after playing understudy to Nick Faldo in the 2008 defeat to the United States in Kentucky.

Reports had suggested that he would only be selecting half the number of assistants that Colin Montgomerie opted for in 2010, but Olazabal has quashed these claims and revealed that he also intends to name four vice-captains.

"I am surprised to learn that there have been media reports suggesting that we will have only two vice-captains," said Olazabal.

"I don't know where they could have come from or whether there has been some misunderstanding, but I want to make it clear that I will be selecting four vice-captains.

"I have said many times that as a vice-captain myself in 2008 and 2010 I learned that you need a lot of help that week."

Paul McGinley and Thomas Bjorn are among the names linked with the positions.
