American Brandt Snedeker scored an opening-day win at the World Match Play after he borrowed a set of clubs.

Snedeker's favoured set went missing as he travelled from Florida to Finca Cortesin, Spain.

The 31-year-old was handed them back on the fourth hole as he went on to score a 5&4 win over Sweden's Thomas Bjorn.

England's Ian Poulter defeated Australia's John Senden 3&2, while Scot Paul Lawrie recorded a 2&1 triumph over Swede Peter Hanson.

Sergio Garcia, Graeme McDowell, Justin Rose and Rafael Cabrera Bello were all victorious, but Charl Schwartzel and Nicolas Colsaerts could only halve.

Having been drawn into eight groups of three, the top two players from each group will go through to a knockout round.
