Rory McIlroy: 'I want to be the best player in my generation'

The world's top golfer, Rory McIlroy, wants to be the "best of this generation".

World number one golfer Rory McIlroy has set his sights on being "the best of this generation".

The 26-year-old is way clear at the top of the world rankings after winning two of the last three Majors and also claiming three tournaments in 2015, including last weekend's Wells Fargo Championship.

The only Major McIlroy is yet to claim victory in is The Masters, which was won by American Jordan Spieth last month.

Spieth is one of a number of young golfers challenging McIlroy, but he is confident that he can outshine the likes of Spieth, Patrick Reed and Rickie Fowler.

"I feel like I'm in a generation with a lot of young guys that are coming up and I want to be the best of this generation," he told BBC Sport.

"I want to win a lot more tournaments, I can win a lot more Majors. I haven't put a number on it because I don't want to put that burden on myself. I just want to be better than everyone else."

McIlroy, from Northern Ireland, has four Major titles to his name and a total of 18 professional wins.
