Robert Streb has carded a first-round 65 to take the outright lead on day one of the Wells Fargo Championship in North Carolina.
Streb, whose first and only PGA Tour win came at the McGladrey Classic in October, sank seven birdies in a bogey-free round to set the pace on seven-under-par.
Patrick Reed and Kevin Chappell are in close pursuit, with the latter grabbing an eagle at the seventh to compensate for his bogey on the first hole.
Reed and Chappell finished on six-under, one clear of former US Open champion Webb Simpson - one of eight players two shots off the pace on five-under.
Meanwhile, defending champion JB Holmes is four back on three-under, along with 14 other players.
Rory McIlroy, runner-up behind Rickie Fowler in 2012, shot a modest 70 after a double-bogey on 17 dented his hopes of going one better than his efforts of three years ago.
