Rory McIlroy: 'Grand Slam beyond my dreams'

Rory McIlroy claims that recording a career Grand Slam is "way beyond" his dreams ahead of next month's Masters.

Rory McIlroy has revealed that completing a career Grand Slam was something he could not dream about doing ahead of The Masters next month.

Only six players have managed to win all four of golf's major tournaments, and McIlroy insists that he will use the opportunity to make history as motivation at Augusta.

"It would be something way beyond my dreams if it worked out," the Northern Irishman, who won two Majors last season, told reporters. "I'll prepare well and put in the long hours but it's one event, after all, and a lot can happen over four days.

"I will, of course, give it my all to complete the Grand Slam at 25 years of age.

"I don't try to put it out of my head. It's there because of my achievements last year and I've had since August 2014, when I won the USPGA, to prepare for what I knew was coming."

McIlroy, who has won four major tournaments, recorded his best Masters finish last year when he tied for eighth place.
