Paul Casey retains dream of making Europe's Ryder Cup team for 2016

Paul Casey confirms that he still has aspirations of making Europe's team for next year's Ryder Cup in Minnesota despite quitting the European Tour.

Paul Casey has confirmed that he still has aspirations of making Europe's team for next year's Ryder Cup in Minnesota.

The 37-year-old tied for third at the Honda Classic last weekend, moving him up to 45th in the world rankings, but the former world number three no longer has membership with the European Tour.

The Englishman left the tour in January to focus on PGA Tour events, and rules state that players have to be a member of the European organisation to be in contention for the Ryder Cup.

However, speaking to The Guardian, Casey said: "I haven't given up on the Ryder Cup, anything but. My dream is to play in another one, another few or more, but I just haven't figured how to yet.

"My energy has all been focused on the PGA Tour and playing well and getting back in the top 50 as that's where I'll be most use to Europe."

According to the paper, it is likely that Casey will rejoin the European Tour before the deadline on May 1.
