US Open champion Justin Rose looks unlikely to win back-to-back Majors after opening his Open Championship campaign with a four-over-par 75.

Justin Rose faces a battle to make the cut at the British Open after recording an opening-round 75 at Muirfield.

Playing in just his second tournament since winning the US Open in June, Rose began his round in solid fashion, recording pars on his first five holes.

However, bogeys at six and nine saw him reach the turn on two-over-par, before responding with four successive pars.

He was still finding it difficult to make a birdie, and three more shots were dropped on the 14th and 15th holes.

His fortunes changed at the 17th when he pulled a shot back, but the world number three will be hoping for a better display on Friday as he bids to make the weekend.
