Fernando Alonso declared fit for Malaysian Grand Prix

The FIA deems Fernando Alonso fit to race in the Malaysian Grand Prix this weekend.

Fernando Alonso will race in this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix after he passed a set of mandatory fitness tests today.

The McLaren driver missed the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on medical grounds after he crashed heavily in pre-season.

The Spaniard suffered concussion and stayed in hospital for three days after he hit a wall in Barcelona.

However, he has been declared fit to return after he passed routine medical tests in England on Sunday, and some more in Malaysia today.

The FIA said in a statement: "In accordance with normal procedures, McLaren-Honda driver Fernando Alonso was this morning examined by the FIA medical delegate and chief medical officer at the Sepang Circuit Medical Centre.

"During the examination the driver passed all mandatory fitness tests and has thus been declared fit to race in this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix."

Alonso is a three-time winner in Kuala Lumpur.
