Ferrari racer Fernando Alonso claims that the only reason that Red Bull are complaining about the tyres in the sport is because they are no longer the dominant force in Formula 1.
Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz previously stated that F1 was "not racing anymore" due to the need to organise the fast-wearing Pirelli tyres.
However, Alonso believes that there is a hint of sour grapes about the comment from his rivals.
"Sometimes, when you win too easy for some years, it is difficult to lose some races afterwards," Alonso told BBC Sport.
"Some of these competitors, they claim to have a super car, but the last three pole positions were for the Mercedes when the tyres are new."
Alonso could be the first person to win the Monaco Grand Prix for three different teams should he emerge victorious in Monte Carlo this weekend.
