Michael Garcia wants FIFA World Cup report published

FIFA investigator Michael Garcia calls on the organisation to make public his report into alleged corruption surrounding the bids for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

FIFA ethics investigator Michael Garcia has called on the governing body to publish his report into alleged corruption surrounding the bids for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

The chairman of FIFA's ethics committee, Hans-Joachim Eckert, recently claimed that he would now allow the publication of Garcia's findings into Russia and Qatar's successful bids.

However, members of the organisation's executive committee, including Northern Ireland's Jim Boyce, have now called on the report to be made public for the sake of clarity.

"Given the limited role Mr Hans-Joachim Eckert envisions for the adjudicatory chamber, I believe it is now necessary for the FIFA executive committee to authorise the appropriate publication of the report on the inquiry into the 2018/2022 FIFA World Cup bidding process," Garcia said in a statement.

"Publication would be consistent with statements made by a number of executive committee members, with the view recently expressed by independent governance committee Chair Mark Pieth, and with the goals of the reform process."

FIFA's executive committee is due to discuss the issue when they meet in Zurich on Thursday and Friday.
