Wolverhampton Wanderers swoop for French teenager Sylvain Deslandes

Wolverhampton Wanderers announce that they have reached an agreement to sign 18-year-old French defender Sylvain Deslandes from Caen.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have agreed to sign young defender Sylvain Deslandes on a free transfer from Ligue 1 side Caen.

The 18-year-old will make the switch to Wolves at the start of July after agreeing a two-year deal with a one-year option.

"It's a dream for me to come to England and I'm delighted with the confidence the club have shown in me," Deslandes told Wolves' website.

The club's head of football development and recruitment, Kevin Thelwell, believes that Deslandes will adapt well to the English game.

"He's a player that we've seen a lot of playing for Caen and the French national teams," said Thelwell. "He's a natural left-footed defender, can play left-back or left side centre-back.

"He's got pace, he's powerful, he's strong, he's got good technique and we think if we can work on all of those assets then there's no reason why he can't make positive steps forward.

"You only have to look at him to know that he's equipped to deal with the physical nature of English football."

Deslandes, who has appeared for France at several youth levels, is likely to play for Wolves' Under-21 development outfit during his first season in England.
