Rotherham United edge past Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolverhampton Wanderers are pipped by Rotherham United in the Championship, with the Millers pinching a one-goal win.

Rotherham United beat Wolverhampton Wanderers by a single goal at the New York Stadium this afternoon.

The first real action of the game came on the quarter-hour mark, with a goal-mouth scramble in the Rotherham box. Bakary Sako had two efforts cleared off the line in the space of seconds before the ball was hooked clear.

Wolves nearly broke the deadlock on 33 minutes as Rotherham keeper Adam Collin charged out at Nouha Dicko, leaving his net gaping, but Wolves man Rajiv van La Parra could not find the net after having the ball squared to him.

Rotherham showed little going forward and will have been the happier of the sides as the whistle went to signal the break, and it did not get much better in the second half.

Wolves continued to press their hosts, Dicko and Sako again looking dangerous, the latter with a well driven free kick from the angle of the penalty area deflecting off the wall.

All the visitors' good work would be undone with 15 minutes remaining, however, Ryan Hall pouncing onto a loose ball and dispatching into an unguarded net.

The Millers were comfortable defending their lead after the goal, keeping possession and seeing the clock out for all three points.
