Wolverhampton Wanderers frustrated by resilient MK Dons

MK Dons leave Molineux with a point after holding Wolverhampton Wanderers to a goalless draw.

Wolverhampton Wanderers dominated against MK Dons at Molineux this afternoon, but had to settle for a point in a game that extended their winless run to five.

Wolves dominated the opening half and spurned several chances to take the lead, most noticeably when Benik Afobe fired his effort from James Henry's cross straight at David Martin in the MK Dons goal.

Afobe and Henry combined almost at will towards the end of the opening 45 minutes though, carving out a series of chances that too often failed to test Martin.

It was more of the same after the restart as Henry picked out the run of Afobe, with Martin being called into action this time with a smart save.

Afobe then found himself on the end of a clever corner routine, but despite getting two bites of the cherry the Wolves striker failed to find the back of the net.

In a rare deviation from the attacking blueprint for the hosts, Dominic Iorfa then tricked his way past two MK Dons men and delivered an enticing low cross that was just beyond the reach of Kevin McDonald.

It was entirely Wolves by this stage, with the MK Dons front line reduced to spectators as Kenny Jackett's side queued up for chances.

Substitute Adam Le Fondre then played a smart one-two with Henry, but was denied by a last-ditch tackle just as he was about to pull the trigger.

Carl Baker fired MK Dons' best chance at Carl Ikeme 15 minutes from time, but Karl Robinson's team held on at the other end on for a precious point.
