Diego inspires Wolfsburg win

Diego scores twice for Wolfsburg as they defeat Bayer Leverkusen 3-1 at home in the Bundesliga.

Wolfsburg have earned three important points in their struggle against relegation from the Bundesliga with a 3-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen at home.

The hosts were in control right from the start and went ahead after just four minutes when Diego scored from a direct free kick.

Twelve minutes later the Brazilian playmaker scored his second goal of the afternoon with a right-footed shot from the centre of the Bayer box that found the bottom left corner of the net.

It became 3-0 to Wolfsburg in the 33rd minute when Bas Dost turned in Marcel Schafer's cross from close range.

That goal effectively ended the game as a contest, and Stefan Kiessling's strike in injury time proved to be a mere consolation.
