Dave Whelan to allow Roberto Martinez to pick from Wigan Athletic players

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan reveals that Roberto Martinez will be permitted to poach Latics players if he moves to Everton.

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has revealed that Roberto Martinez will be allowed to pick from the Latics squad if he moves to Everton.

The Spaniard is expected to be announced as the Merseyside outfit's new manager within the next 48 hours following a compensation agreement between the two parties.

While some clubs opt to secure agreements with outgoing managers over restrictions with regards to signing players from them, Whelan has confirmed that no such deal will be made.

"There is no agreement," Whelan told PA Sport. "It is unfair and I don't believe in anything like that. If Everton want to sign any of our players for the right amount of money we will consider it."

Martinez has been linked with swoops for Arouna Kone, James McCarthy and Callum McManaman.
