Wigan Athletic midfielder Callum McManaman has revealed that he didn't let the criticism that came his way following his tackle on Newcastle United defender Massadio Haidara get him down.
The Scot escaped unpunished by the Football Association for his tackle on the left-back after referee Mark Halsey missed the incident much to fury of the Magpies.
"There was a long wait after the Newcastle game for the next match, but what happened didn't get me down," McManaman told The Mirror.
"People around you help, but ultimately it's down to you as an individual to go one way or the other and having just got into the team, I was desperate to get back on the training pitch and make sure I was in the starting lineup for Norwich."
McManaman scored in Wigan's 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, which helped them close the gap to 17th place Aston Villa to two points in their fight against relegation.
