Alan Pardew: 'Newcastle United future out of my hands'

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew admits that his future is out his hands following their 6-0 humiliation against Liverpool.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has admitted that his long-term future on Tyneside is out of his hands following their heaviest home defeat for 87 years.

Liverpool ran out 6-0 winners at St James' Park on Saturday, leaving Newcastle five points above the Premier League relegation zone with three games to play.

Pardew has insisted that his beleaguered side have enough quality to end their indifferent run and prevail in an unexpected relegation battle.

He told The Guardian when asked about a section of Newcastle fans asking for his eight-year contract to be ripped up: "Well, that's out of my hands. Until I'm told otherwise, my job is to lift the team and make it as good as I can.

"I've got to make sure I put things right. We've got to show we've got the fight for this because I think a lot of people will look at us and think we've got a great chance of being relegated.

"We've got to prove them wrong but I genuinely believe we've got enough quality to get the points we need."

The Magpies are 16th in the Premier League standings after picking up one win in their last six matches.
