Sports Mole takes a closer look at Wigan Athletic's 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur's hopes of Champions League qualification took a stumble on Saturday with a 2-2 draw at Wigan Athletic in the Premier League.

It took an own goal from Emmerson Boyce in injury time to earn the visitors a point at the DW Stadium - a point that has kept them in fifth place on goal difference.

Meanwhile, Wigan are now two points off safety with four games left to play.

Sports Mole takes a closer look at the entertaining encounter between the two sides.

Spurs:

Was the result fair?

It could be argued that Wigan were worthy of all three points, but Spurs saw their persistence rewarded late on with an equaliser. The home side will feel aggrieved not to have picked up the win, though, as they gave one of their best displays of the campaign so far.

Wigan's performance

Roberto Martinez's side gave an impressively committed performance that will leave many wondering how they are battling at the wrong end of the table. They refused to allow their opponents to play, staying compact and putting plenty of men behind the ball while looking threatening on the break.

Spurs's performance

It was far from vintage, but this could be a vital point in the race for Champions League football. Gareth Bale was stifled out wide and Jermain Defoe had little to work with in attack, but they hung in there to snatch a point at the death.

Sports Mole's man of the match

James McArthur: The 25-year-old midfielder was a vital presence at both ends of the pitch for the Latics as he broke down a number of attacks while charging forward when necessary.

Biggest gaffe

Tottenham's opening goal was one for the bloopers DVD as Joel Robles and Maynor Figueroa messed around in the penalty area before Gareth Bale charged down the goalkeeper's clearance to put the ball in the net.

Referee performance

Things started to get a little heated between the two sides in the second half, but Martin Atkinson kept his composure to allow the game to flow from end to end.

What next?

Wigan: The Latics continue their battle for survival next Saturday when they travel to West Bromwich Albion.

Spurs: Tottenham will look to get back to winning ways on Saturday with the visit of Southampton to White Hart Lane.
