Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez admits that the club are considering appealing against the red card that Maynor Figueora received against Newcastle United on Monday night.

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez believes that left-back Maynor Figueroa did not deserve to be sent off against Newcastle United on Monday night.

The Honduras international was dismissed after he was adjudged to have committed a professional foul on Papiss Cisse but Martinez disagreed and he has admitted that the club could appeal against the decision.

Martinez told Sky Sports News: "Both players are allowed to challenge for the ball. As a defender, you are always going to be strong; as a striker, you are going to invite the contact.

"It is shoulder to shoulder for me. What is important is that the contact was shoulder to shoulder, and that's allowed.

"In the laws of the game, you are allowed to challenge for the position. We will have to look into it if we can appeal for the red card."

Wigan's 3-0 defeat left them in 16th place in the Premier League table.
