Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez believes that his team will avoid relegation if they maintain their level of performance.

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez believes his side's showing in the 2-1 win at Bolton Wanderers is the blueprint to avoiding relegation.

Goals from Gary Caldwell and James McArthur gave the Spaniard his first success over the Trotters in eight attempts.

Martinez, who was delighted with McArthur, is convinced that the Latics can stay up.

He said: "We need as many players like James from now until the end of the season. There are many things we can control but you need the belief, arrogance and bravery in your make-up.

"It's easy to play when you're in the top six but in our position you need an extra bit of mettle. We know what it takes and we will fight with our lives to carry on in this league.

"The three points were important but more important was how we got them. We looked like the home team and a real threat every time we went forward.

"We know that from now until the end of the season we've got 13 cup finals and it's about ourselves. Today is an example of what we have to do from now until the end of the season."

Wigan remain bottom of the table but are only two points below 17th-placed Queens Park Rangers.
