James McArthur scored 14 minutes from time to allow Wigan Athletic to claim all three points from their trip to relegation rivals Bolton Wanderers this afternoon.
After a scrappy opening 42 minutes, visiting Wigan broke the deadlock through Gary Caldwell. Jean Beausejour was the creator, crossing for the centre-back to head past Adam Bogdan in the Bolton goal.
Owen Coyle's Bolton came out for the second half with a greater attacking threat and that paid off in the 67th minute. David Ngog found Mark Davies with time and space inside the area and the midfielder took one touch before sending his effort into the top left hand corner of the net.
However, Wanderers failed to build on their domination and were punished 15 minutes from time. Victor Moses produced a low cross which McArthur managed to send past Bogdan from close range.
Bolton debutant Ryo Miyaichi went closest to rescuing a point for the home side, but his low effort was tipped wide by Ali Al-Habsi in the Wigan goal as the away side held out for all three points.
