West Ham United climb out of the relegation zone and are replaced by Wolves courtesy of a 2-0 win over Bruno Lage's side at the London Stadium.

West Ham United have moved out of the relegation zone courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the London Stadium this evening.

Goals either of half time from Gianluca Scamacca and Jarrod Bowen handed David Moyes's side their first home win of the campaign, seeing them leapfrog a Wolves side that now replaces them in the bottom three.

Both teams had endured underwhelming starts to the season with just one win apiece from their opening seven games, while they also boasted the worst scoring records in the division this term with only three goals each.

In the end it was two moments of quality in front of goal that settled the contest, with Scamacca and Bowen both providing clinical finishes in a game of few clear-cut chances.

Wolves' struggles in front of goal continued on the night, despite a debut for new signing Diego Costa, to leave them now 18th in the table with six points from their eight games.

The Hammers are only one point better off, but their first home league win since April 3 is enough to lift them up three places to 15th.

Big-money summer signing Scamacca broke the deadlock with his first Premier League goal shortly before the half-hour mark when he fired a fine half-volley into the corner, although his strike did take a deflection on the way through.

Bowen then registered his first league goal of the season nine minutes into the second half when he took the ball down inside the area, cut inside and fired past Jose Sa at the near post.

Costa spurned a golden chance to mark his Premier League return with a goal when he planted a free header wide of the target, before straying offside to cause Daniel Podence's goal to be disallowed shortly afterwards.

However, West Ham saw out the victory fairly comfortably in the end, picking up their first home league win in seven.

Wolves, meanwhile, see their winless away run extend to eight games stretching back to March, while this is the 21st game in which they have failed to score since the start of last season.
