West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini has said that Jack Wilshere is "a holding midfielder", despite playing further forward against Liverpool in the Premier League last weekend.
Wilshere, who moved to West Ham on a free transfer this summer following his release from Arsenal, played in the number 10 position during his new team's 4-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.
Declan Rice and Mark Noble were the two sitting midfielders in West Ham's league opener, but Pellegrini has claimed that he sees the Englishman as more of a defensive midfielder.
"I see Jack playing as a holding midfielder," Pellegrini told reporters. "He can give us very good build up and is a player who is always creating during the game.
"He's done very good in the Premier League. The length of time he was there [at Arsenal] reflects how good a job he's done."
West Ham will look to bounce back from the Liverpool defeat when they welcome Bournemouth to the London Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
