West Bromwich Albion reportedly step up their pursuit of a new manager, with Birmingham City's Chris Hughton topping the wishlist.

West Bromwich Albion are thought to be closing in on a new manager following Roy Hodgson's departure to the English national team.

It is understood that Birmingham City boss Chris Hughton is the frontrunner to nab the vacancy left by the 64-year-old. However, an official approach to Hughton has yet to be made, according to PA Sport.

Former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri is believed to have been interviewed twice by the Baggies hierarchy, while ex-Blues coach Ray Wilkins has also been considered but is not believed to be a top target.

Schalke boss Ralf Rangnick was also reportedly spoken to regarding the managerial vacancy last week.
