Preview: Watford vs. Blackpool

Sports Mole looks ahead to Saturday's Championship clash between playoff hopefuls Watford and bottom-of-the-table Blackpool at Vicarage Road.

Watford will go into Saturday's Championship match against Blackpool hoping to consolidate their position in the top six of the table.

The Hornets currently occupy the final playoff place, but with fifth-placed Brentford taking on seventh-placed Norwich City, at least one of the teams directly around them will drop points.

Slavisa Jokanovic will, of course, expect to pick up a win against the league's bottom club, but confidence should be higher than usual following their 5-0 drubbing of Charlton Athletic last time out.

That result was the perfect response to a disappointing 3-1 defeat at the hands of Huddersfield Town in their first league match of 2015.

However, despite the Charlton rout coming at Vicarage Road, their home form remains an increasing worry having seen all three of their home defeats this season come in the last five outings in front of their own fans.

Odion Ighalo got two in the victory over the Addicks, taking his tally to four in his last three games, while Troy Deeney has weighed in with six goals and two assists in his last seven outings for the club.

Both should start once again for Jokanovic's side, while Almen Abdi is also pushing for a place in the starting XI.

As for Blackpool, it was back to losing ways for them last weekend as they fell to a late 2-0 defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers, with both goals coming in the final five minutes.

They have now won just one of their last seven and are nine points adrift of safety, with relegation looming more inevitable with every passing week.

The Tangerines come into this match as one of just two sides out of the 92 league clubs in England still looking for their first away win of the season, the other being Queens Park Rangers.

Indeed, they have not even scored a goal on the road since December 13, losing all three away matches since that date.

They do, however, have a good record at Vicarage Road having won three and lost just one of their last six visits there.

Lee Clark will be without the services of Grant Holt due to an ankle injury, but Ishmael Miller is back in contention having missed the last two games with a hamstring problem.

Players are coming and going from Blackpool with regularity at the moment, and the departures of the likes of Chris Eagles and Tom Kennedy could open up a space for Chelsea loanee Islam Feruz to make his debut.
