Troy Deeney: 'We were crap against Southampton'

Watford captain Troy Deeney slams his side's "crap" performance during their 2-0 defeat to Southampton at St Mary's - their third loss on the bounce.

Watford captain Troy Deeney has launched a scathing critique of his side's performance during their 2-0 defeat to Southampton on Wednesday evening.

The Hornets lost for the third league game in a row to drop down to 10th in the table, with Shane Long and Dusan Tadic getting the goals as Southampton won for just the second time in their last 11 outings.

Deeney pulled no punches in telling his teammates exactly what he thought of the display, claiming that only goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes could hold his head up high after the match.

"I am not going to try and gloss over the fact that we were crap. There is no point hiding the facts," he is quoted as saying by PA.

"The only person who can come out of the game with any credit is Heurelho Gomes because he saved about five goals.

"My job as captain is to stand up when we have played shit and take the hit. This is the first time this season where we have had to look at ourselves."

Watford will look to win for the first time since before Christmas when they take on Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Monday night.
