Quique Flores backs Troy Deeney for England place

Watford boss Quique Flores insists that Troy Deeney is good enough to warrant an England call-up following his brace against Crystal Palace.

Watford manager Quique Flores has insisted that Troy Deeney deserves to be considered by England manager Roy Hodgson.

The Hornets skipper scored both goals for his side during their 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace this afternoon, while he has also been praised for his link-up play with Odion Ighalo this season.

Flores believes that Deeney's ability to bring others into play could be a useful tool for England, hailing his captain as a selfless team player.

When asked whether Deeney is good enough to play for his country, Flores told reporters: "Yes, I've already said. This kind of player can can combine with everyone, with [Harry] Kane, with [Jamie] Vardy, with other players, he can combine with other players.

"But I want to stop about that, because I am not the manager of the national team, I respect Hodgson a lot. [Deeney] has an amazing personality. He is not just a striker for us. He started the season as a striker, then as a second striker, and now he's playing for the system.

"It's not just like a striker, his value for the collective, his work-rate, pressure, defending deep, interceptions... he's a very important player for us."

Deeney has now scored nine goals for Watford this season, helping them up to eighth in the Premier League table.
