Dean Smith focused on winning Johnstone's Paint Trophy

Walsall manager Dean Smith admits that his focus is on winning a football match rather than enjoying the occasion of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final at Wembley.

Walsall manager Dean Smith has admitted that the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final is more than "just a day out" to his side as the club make their first ever appearance at Wembley.

The Saddlers will play Bristol City in their first match at the national stadium in their 127-year history, but Smith has revealed that there will be a huge sense of disappointment if his side don't overcome the League One pacesetters.

The 44-year-old is quoted by the Express & Star as saying: "It has always been about winning for us. I said when we got there it would be a super day out for the board of directors, the owner, all the supporters, the first time at Wembley for 127 years.

"But for us, it is about going and winning a trophy and we will be very disappointed if we don't win the trophy. Yes, it is a great achievement being the first manager to take them there but we want to win the trophy.

"I want to be sat on the coach on the way home with the JPT on the table."

Walsall currently sit in 15th place in the league standings, while Bristol City are clear at the top by 11 points.
