Valencia extend unbeaten run

Daniel Parejo and Paco Alcacer score in the second half to give Valencia a 2-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna.

Valencia have extended their unbeaten run in La Liga to six matches with a 2-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna this evening.

Rodrigo had a chance to give the home the lead inside the opening five minutes when he met a pass on the edge of the box, but his finish lacked power, allowing Fabri to make an easy stop.

Luisinho tried to set something up down the other end when Deportivo were awarded a free kick, but his curling effort into the penalty area was claimed by the keeper before the visitors could reach it.

Valencia tried to open the scoring again midway through the first half when Alvaro Negredo rose high to meet a cross in, but the finish went wide.

The hosts were pressing again early in the second half as they continued to try to break the deadlock, but an Antonio Barragan cross missed its target, while a Negredo header flew just high of the crossbar.

Fabri had to remain alert to deny Negredo as the striker carved out some space before drilling the ball in low, but he tipped it behind for a corner, before stopping a Negredo finish again from the resulting set piece moments later.

Valencia were awarded a penalty with just over an hour gone as Juanfran charged into Daniel Parejo, leaving the forward to send the keeper the wrong way and pick out the bottom corner.

The hosts doubled their lead just 10 minutes later when Sofiane Feghouli crossed the ball in for Paco Alcacer to tap in from just a couple of metres out.

Feghouli could have got himself on the scoresheet late on when Andre Gomes made a run down the flank before crossing it in, but the finish ended up going well wide.

The result moves Valencia above Atletico into third, although they have played a match more, while Deportivo sit 16th, just a point clear of the relegation zone.
