Valencia name Nuno Espirito Santo as new manager

Nuno Espirito Santo is named as the new manager of Valencia.

Valencia have named former Rio Ave coach Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager following the departure of Juan Antonio Pizzi.

The Portuguese has entered a one-year deal with the La Liga outfit, with the option to extend his contract at the end of the season should he meet expectations.

"Valencia have reached an agreement for the signing of Nuno Espirito Santo until June 30, 2015, with the possibility of a renewal subject to seasonal sporting achievements under the Portuguese coach," read a statement on the club's website.

Pizzi's sacking earlier this week came as a surprise, with Valencia having reached the Europa League semi-finals and finished eighth in La Liga last term.

Nuno, the first Portuguese manager in the club's history, will be formally unveiled as Valencia boss on Friday.
