Edinson Cavani: 'Uruguay future still bright'

Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani remains optimistic over his nation's future on the international scene, despite their World Cup exit.

Edinson Cavani has insisted that the future remains bright for Uruguay, despite their World Cup elimination on Saturday.

Playing in the absence of the banned Luis Suarez, La Celeste went down 2-0 to Colombia courtesy of a James Rodriguez goal in either half last night.

However, the Paris Saint-Germain forward feels that there are still "solid foundations" from which "wonderful and important things" can be built in the future.

"This group of players have been working together for many years and have achieved wonderful and important things," he told reporters.

"It's a fact that there are solid foundations, made up not only of great players but also great people. When you've got that, it's easier to keep building."

Earlier today, 35-year-old Diego Forlan dismissed suggestions that he was poised to retire from the international scene.
