Diego Forlan dismisses retirement rumours

Veteran striker Diego Forlan insists that he is not planning to retire from international duty with Uruguay any time soon.

Uruguay striker Diego Forlan has revealed that he has no intentions of retiring from international duty any time soon.

Forlan started two World Cup encounters this summer but was powerless to prevent La Celeste from exiting the tournament following a 2-0 defeat to Colombia in the last 16.

At the age of 35, the veteran striker is aware that he is very much in the twilight of his international career, but the ex-Inter Milan forward insists that he can still provide a service.

"I want to play football," Forlan is quoted as saying by ESPN.

"I still love to be on the field. I know there's going to be a generational change. That's to be expected, and I'm 35. But I'm always willing to help and be around."

Forlan has struck 36 times in 112 international appearances for the South Americans.
