PSV sign Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink on a free transfer until the end of the season.

PSV Eindhoven have signed free agent Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink until the end of the season.

The striker won three Eredivisie titles in a five-year spell at the club until his move to Celtic in 2006.

"Jan and the club both wanted this very much," said sporting director Marcel Brands. "He had a lot to thank the club for and wants to give something back.

"PSV know what he can do and obviously in his new role he will achieve something. He will form backup for the striker position and his experience will also be felt by youngsters like Ruben Bentancourt and Jurgen Locadia."

Eindhoven are currently second in the Dutch league.
