Paulo Di Canio's Swindon upset Championship side Brighton with a 3-0 victory in the Capital One Cup first round.

Alan Navarro scored twice against his former club as Swindon Town recorded a 3-0 Capital One Cup victory over Championship outfit Brighton & Hove Albion at the County Ground tonight.

The newly-promoted League One side entered the break having been dominated by the Seagulls, who could not convert possession into chances.

However, Swindon did not have the same problem in the second half as a quickfire double from Paul Benson and Navarro set up a first-round scalp.

Last season's top scorer Benson netted the 53rd-minute opener after Matt Richie and Andy Williams assisted with a finely-constructed free kick.

Former Brighton man Navarro doubled Town's advantage 12 minutes later when he smashed into the top corner from inside the area.

One-time Spain international Vicente nearly reduced the deficit moments later, but was denied by a fine Wes Foderingham save.

Navarro completed the scoring with a third in the latter stages as Paulo Di Canio's side displayed their promotion credentials with an impressive win.
