Wayne Routledge could have pulled the Swans ahead as early as the fourth minute when he latched onto a bouncing ball behind the Villa defence, but goalkeeper Brad Guzan made a good recovery.

However, Guzan failed to keep out the Swansea midfielder five minutes later when he ran behind Villa defender Ciaran Clark to collect a through-ball from Pablo Hernandez and shoot past him.

Michu almost made it 2-0 to Swansea from the restart when he intercepted an inaccurate pass on the edge of the box, but was denied by the frame of the visitors' goal.

Moments later Danny Graham was released by Routledge deep inside the Villa penalty box, but failed to his shot on target.

Michael Laudrup's side continued to dominate proceedings at the Liberty Stadium, with Angel Rangel firing wide and Michu hitting the post in the 25th minute.

Then much against the run of play, Villa equalised on the stroke of half time when Andreas Weimann fired home from close range after being teed up by Christian Benteke.

Pablo had good chance to put the Swans back up in the opening minutes of the second half but failed to keep his volley on target, before Chico's header off a Jonathan de Guzman free kick was saved by Guzan with ease.

Then with just six minutes left on the clock, Benteke appeared to have wrapped up the points for Villa by successfully converting a penalty, but Graham scored in the fifth minute of injury time for the Swans with an acrobatic effort.
