Francesco Guidolin: 'I want to stay at Swansea City'

Swansea City manager Francesco Guidolin admits that he would like to remain at the club beyond the end of the current season, when his contract expires.

Swansea City manager Francesco Guidolin has admitted that he would like to stay on at the club beyond the end of the current season.

Guidolin arrived at the Liberty Stadium in January and has since steered the Swans to safety in the Premier League, with last weekend's 1-0 win over Chelsea taking them to the 40-point mark.

However, he was only appointed until the end of the season and uncertainty still remains over his future, particularly with the club in line for American investment.

"I am happy because I am proud of the results. I spoke yesterday with the chairman and we spoke about the future. Nothing is decided but we are talking about many things - players, structure, pre-season, staff. It was a good conversation and we agreed on a lot of things," Guidolin told reporters.

"I prefer to stay here if possible and now I am awaiting his decision. We will meet again next week and I will wait because now I am concentrated on the next game.

"I didn't speak with the chairman about [the takeover] and I can't say anything about it. I don't know what [impact] it will have. All I know is that Swansea is an important club in the Premier League and it has potential."

Swansea will look to record back-to-back wins for the first time under Guidolin when they face Newcastle United at St James' Park on Saturday.
