Francesco Guidolin: "Safety is almost real" for Swansea City

Swansea City manager Francesco Guidolin says that his side are "almost" safe from relegation following their 1-0 win over Chelsea at the Liberty Stadium.

Swansea City manager Francesco Guidolin has hailed his side's "very important" victory over Chelsea at the Liberty Stadium this afternoon.

Gylfi Sigurdsson's first-half strike handed the Swans a 1-0 win over the reigning Premier League champions to see them reach the 40-point mark and climb 13 clear of the relegation zone.

Guidolin acknowledged that his side were "almost" safe following the result, but urged them not to take their foot off the pedal in the closing weeks of the season.

"This is the first victory in the Premier League for Swansea against Chelsea and I am happy and proud we played very well in the first half. We deserved to score other goals," he told BBC Sport.

"It's a very important win for our fans. It's a good afternoon for our players, our club and our fans. Safety is almost real, but I hope to take other points in the next weeks because it's important to finish well."

Swansea's victory also ended Chelsea's 15-match unbeaten streak in the league as the Blues fell to their first defeat since Jose Mourinho left the club in December.
