Sunderland reportedly take away captain Lee Cattermole's number six squad number amid reports that manager Paolo Di Canio wants to sell the midfielder.

Sunderland have reportedly taken away captain Lee Cattermole's number six squad number amid reports that the midfielder could be on his way out of the club.

The 25-year-old is currently recovering from a knee injury, which has placed him on the sidelines until March, resulting in his absence from the club's participation in the Asia Trophy.

Cattermole's squad number was removed without consulting the player himself, according to The Journal.

Reports have claimed that Black Cats manager Paolo Di Canio is willing to part with the midfielder for £2m.
