Andy Wilkinson pens short-term Stoke City contract extension

Stoke City hand defender Andy Wilkinson a new contract in order to help him recover from a head injury.

Stoke City defender Andy Wilkinson has signed a short-term contract extension that is intended to give him time to recover from a head injury.

The 30-year-old has not featured for the Potters since suffering the problem back in February.

Wilkinson's new deal at the Britannia Stadium is due to run until December 31.

"Stoke City can confirm that Andy Wilkinson has been given a contract until December 31, 2015 to enable him to regain full fitness with the support of the club's medical staff after sustaining an injury last season," read a club statement.

Wilkinson has made nearly 200 appearances for Stoke since 2001.
