Stoke City's Marco van Ginkel: 'We deserved much more against Liverpool'

Marco van Ginkel believes that Stoke City "deserved much more" following their defeat to Liverpool at the Britannia Stadium on Sunday.

Stoke City midfielder Marco van Ginkel has claimed that he and his teammates "deserved" to gain at least a point from their opening Premier League match against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Potters suffered a 1-0 defeat at the Britannia Stadium when Philippe Coutinho struck four minutes from time to give the Reds all three points.

Van Ginkel, who has joined Stoke from Chelsea on a season-long loan, was happy to make his league debut for the club, but has revealed that the team felt "low" after the final whistle.

"Of course I enjoyed making my competitive debut, but we are disappointed not to have got something from the game," Van Ginkel told Stoke City Player. "The team went back into the dressing room feeling low and very quiet because we have come away with zero points.

"I thought we did well in the first half and created several chances and we stopped them from creating any chances of their own. Perhaps we played a bit more of a long ball game in the second half and they scored a wonderful goal but as a whole, I think we deserved much more."

Meanwhile, reports have claimed that Inter Milan winger Xherdan Shaqiri is undergoing a medical today ahead of a proposed move to the Potters.
